Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

 

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouricampaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

 

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

 

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights.  The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. Ezra debated Toronto “pompous” lawyer Jonathan Rosenthal today on CTV. The debate was about the Winnipeg mom who had her child taken away by the government because the child was sent to school with a swastika drawn on her arm.

I agree with Ezra. Were do you draw the line? Were does the government draw the line? What if you move your family from Canada to say Pakistan to kill Soviets or Americans in Afghanistan? Then come back to Canada to save your ass when the shit really hits the fan. Do you take the kids away when your family has close ties with Osama bin Laden? I certainly don’t what a “pompous” windbag Toronto lawyer like Rosenthal to decide. Worse it could come down to a scrotum sweat lawyer like Warren Kinsella. Really do you want that sack of shit deciding what can be discussed in your home? I’m sure he would say yes.

It looks like the CHRC has dismissed the complaintagainst Maclean’s which was brought on by the Canadian Islamic Congress.  The news release by Maclean’s does not explain the reason why it was dropped. So it’s any one’s  guess as to why.  I’m betting there will be a “If we coulda we woulda” statement coming out of the CHRC  soon (similar to Heir Hall’s OHRC statement after it dropped its case against Maclean’s).

While good for Maclean’s. I was hoping this complaint would have gone all the way up to the Supreme Court. We’ll have to wait and see what the BCHT Kangaroos do.  

Update: Deborah Gyapong reports that the commission didn’t “issue a Barbara Hall-ish drive by verdict”.   Hmmm…. The CIC’s response will be interesting.

Update 2: The CHRC’s Explanation

The Steyn article discusses changing global demographics and other factors that the author describes as contributing to an eventual ascendancy of Muslims in the ‘developed world’, a prospect that the author fears for various reasons described in the article. The writing is polemical, colourful and emphatic, and was obviously calculated to excite discussion and even offend certain readers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

Overall, however, the views expressed in the Steyn article, when considered as a whole and in context, are not of an extreme nature as defined by the Supreme Court in the Taylor decision. Considering the purpose and scope of section 13 (1), and taking into account that an interpretation of s. 13 (1) must be consistent with the minimal impairment of free speech, there is no reasonable basis in the evidence to warrant the appointment of a Tribunal.

My guess is that the real reason was that they didn’t want to tangle with $800 per day lawyers with half functional nitwits as complainants (as witnessed at the BCHRT).

As people might already know past Ontario human rights commission director Pearl “Cui Bono” Eliadis singled out blogger Blazing Cat Fur for refering to  “her panel” at CASHRA2008  as a “Texas Cage Match“.

First off.. CASHRA?  Too funny.  Is that the battle cry of the human rights professionals like Cui Bono and Lucy Warman?  “I just nailed Ciaran Paul Donnelly for $1000… CASH-RA-RA-RA!!”

Secondly Blazing Cat Fur made that particular post back on April 24, 2008.  What’s that two months of stewing in her own juices over a blog post?  It goes to show you how pity these little dictators are.   I do find it hilarious that on the day Blazing Cat Fur posts about Lucy Warman making Ciaran Paul Donnelly a “Rock Star” for settling his CHRT complaint  for $1000.  The National Post publishes Eliadis’ quote instantly making Blazing Cat Fur a Star.  I hope Blazing Cat Fur’s sitemeter crashes due to the number of hits!

Congratulations to Blazing Cat Fur for getting under the human rights professionals skin!  I’m sure that they are now busy working on making the term “Texas Cage Match” a hate crime.

Canadian born Sarah Desrosiers forced into the roll of freedom fighter by a Brit human rights commision.  Ordered to by pay £4,000. 

Canada-born Ms Desrosiers, who denied being a racist when she attended the tribunal in April, faced financial ruin after Ms Noah doubled her compensation claim to £36,000 following extensive media coverage of the case.

“It’s just been a real drag,” said Ms Desrosiers. “My dad even came over for the trial from Canada. I know there was no way I had done what she accused me of. I’m upset because I met this girl for 10 minutes. Now I’ve got to pay her four grand – that’s a lot of haircuts. I’ve only been open two years and I’m in debt.” —- Islington Gazette

Lucy  Warman is one lucky Oppressor.  First he draws a fellow co-worker as a mediator in his SLAPP Defamation lawsuit against Free Dominion.  Now the CHRC picks the lead “independent” investigator from the same leftest law school he attended.  With that kinda good luck Lucy should just drop the Section 13 shakedowns and buy 649 tickets.  But I digress…..

 Also Der Kommissar of the CHRC Jennifer “Hang’em High” Lynch took some interviews for the first time since the shit has hit the fan.  One was with Don Butler at Canwest in which Blazing Cat Fur does a good job “breaking down”.  Another was with Joesph Brean at the National Post.

Here’s the breakdown:

She was clearly familiar with the criticisms levelled against her commission, and had an answer for each.

She denied that her investigators have ever posted bigoted comments on the Internet, or engaged in entrapment, as has been frequently alleged.

“We have not done that and I would not tolerate it,” she said.

What she hasn’t read some of the statements made by her own employees on transcripts from  her kangaroo court? 

She has “no discomfort level” with the prominence of former CHRC employee Richard Warman, who has brought more than a dozen complaints under section 13-1, including Mr. Lemire’s, and boasts a 100% success rate.

 Jennifer “Hang’em High” Lynch and Jason Cherniak must be the only two people, apart from Lucy Warman, left in Canada that actually believe that.

“I have pride and respect for the work that’s done by commission members,” she said, and she expects that it always “adheres to the principles of natural justice.”

Let’s wait and see what the Privacy Commission and the RCMP have to say about that.

I must admit I was worried about coming up with material for the third of the Last Days of the CHRC  triolgy. However, like the other two videos in the series the commission writes the script for me.
